The description of imo free video calls and chat
imo messenger is an app for free messaging, audio and video calling. It’s completely free if you communicate within imo, and cheap if you need to call outside. Download imo and enjoy free overseas calls and video chats!
The way imo works is similar to that of WhatsApp or Telegram. After installing the app, you need to enter your phone number and then enter the confirmation code sent to it. Then the app scans your contacts and automatically adds those on imo to your contact list. If you want to have someone else on imo, but they have no account, you can send out invitations via WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, SMS, or email.
With imo, you can text your imo contacts, make voice or video calls for free (save for data fees that may apply), unlimitedly. The video call quality is decent, as for audio, it was just excellent in our tries. You can also send attachments (photos, videos), stickers and emoji, or your location. The app also supports group video calls. All the calls and chats are encrypted, so they can only be deciphered on devices on those participating.
Video calls can be enhanced with AR effects, like stickers, masks, or animations. They are not as numerous as in, say, Snapchat; yet you can add an emoji like a physical sticker to your face, or, say, make red hearts emanate from your head, expressing love. On some devices, it can fail, and hearts look just like squares; on others, everything works out right.
Though imo is not the most popular service of its sort, shadowed by WhatsApp, Telegram or Viber, it still has a large audience. It’s #1 in some countries of Central Asia, partially due to other messengers having been partially or completely banned there. In the rest of the world, it’s not so popular, but its audience is quite stable.
The interface of imo is similar to that of WhatsApp or Telegram, and even closer to that of ICQ and other old school messengers. (In fact, imo was a cross-platform client for ICQ-like services before its modern phase). Your main window is a contact list, and you need to tap the contact to start chatting, initiate a voice or a video call. This extremely simple interface is one of the reasons imo is popular.
The app works excellently with stable speedy connection but gets lost in 3G networks, let alone EDGE. It needs Wi-Fi or LTE for video and voice calls to function well, though texting is not that demanding. It’s also possible to send files on the low-speed Internet; though it takes time, the files are usually delivered and received well.
There are paid features that extend functionality; for example, the subscription brings 25 GB of cloud storage, removes ads from the app, and grants better connection. But the core is free anyway, so, if you’re good with it, paying isn’t necessary.
Imo is, in fact, another version of WhatsApp or Viber, and the main reason to use it is your friends using imo too. If even some of them do, you’ll benefit if you download imo. If not, you can have it installed just in case.26 Jun 2019
